You know you're in the right place when they have a replica of the TARDIS right outside!
Though I'm not happy that this is where trolls gather to make misery...
The result of misreading the schedule and arriving 2 hours early...
But when you get to meet the one and only Christopher Lloyd, it's all worth it!
But let's be honest. The reason anyone goes to a convention is to find replicas of iconic characters and props. Like this Catbus from My Neighbor Totoro!
And these... Whatever these are from VergePC!
Of course, the second most important feature of any convention are the booths upon booths of nerd culture items. POP figs, trade collections, pins, vintage toys, I found a bit of everything here!
Including stalls primarily selling anime plushies. ...And at this point, my avatars couldn't control themselves and joined in on the fun.
Especially when Pink Lady found the Pokemon plush dolls. She literally got lost in them for a time...
But Brick, never one to be shown up, then found a collection of vintage 80s and 90s figures, including MUSCLE figures that he could actually have a conversation with face-to-face.
...He would soon regret what he said...
Pink was perfectly happy hanging out with the Robocop twins. Their directives luckily included respecting her personal space.
Luckily, neither one found trouble in a nearby diorama, Pink happily hanging out with the Disney princesses and Brick hanging out with... Whoever these tough guys were.
At one point, they both got lost. Thankfully, I eventually found them at a custom drinking glass booth, hiding in glasses bearing symbols of their favorite franchises. ...I'm just lucky they didn't find a distillery booth close by...
Further down, we found R2-D2 shaking what its creator gave it!
Or maybe it was trying to have a dance-off against this Jurassic Park dinosaur pulling a chariot? ...R2 takes the gold.
Speaking of which, I managed to find the Jeep from Jurassic World. No Chris Pratt in sight, but at least his ride's waiting.
As an animator, I'm always looking for fun and helpful tools to aid in my creative ventures, and that came in the form of "Dodles", which is a fun, easy-to-use app that allows you to design a character, assign animation, and even sync audio to essentially make your own animated character with minimal stress! ...Unfortunately, it was getting late at this point, so I didn't have time to stop and play with it, but I will very soon!
They also had this huge replica of a pirate ship right in the center of everything! I didn't see a sign telling me what exactly it was replicating, but I did see some mermaids, so that counts for something.
I also got to meet the Ghostbusters of Salt Lake! They ain't afraid of no Holy Ghost!
And who knows? Maybe Iron Man's war suit right across from them at the Kids Heroes Foundation has Ghostbusting features?
There were a lot of other heroes there who could help out.
Maybe you could too?
They did have a diorama of Lego superheroes, which Pink got along with very well. Brick... Not as much...
Probably the most elaborate booth we found was the Nightmare on 13th exhibit, promoting the local haunted house attraction. A hearse, several animatronics, and a few photo ops surrounded this haunted construction.
And, of course, even staring death right in the face, Brick managed to get on one of the ghoul's bad sides...
But everything eventually worked out and we even got a picture with another one of the monstrosities. ...Brick will never be the same though...
We passed by a stage set up for the voice actor for Beast Boy: Greg Cipes. He wasn't there at that time, but we did get to see obese Tony the Tiger and Ronald McDonald. ...Which, let's be fair, we all saw coming.
At one booth, Brick and Pink got to pose with some Mormon POP figures. And being Mormon myself, the fact that these exist makes me feel... eh. I don't really care about POP figures to begin with, and these are somehow more kitchy than those.
We also found an area where they were playing the card game Eschaton from Archon Games. And I got a selfie with their mascot!
We found a promotion for another upcoming convention: FearCon. ...And once again, Brick couldn't keep his mouth shut. ...He's going to have quite the therapy bill...
After staring death and horror in the face multiple times, we needed something cute and fluffy, so we found a booth that sold Tribbles and giant microbes. And they had a claw machine to get your own environmental hazards!
We took a little break from the action and walked outside the main vendor area. Wouldn't you know it? Silver Surfer was posing there, waiting for a picture!
And Brick got a picture with one of the trolls from outside that had wandered inside. Best moment of his life!
Oh, and frozen Han was there, waiting for a selfie. ...Wonder if he was wishing he'd get stabbed while he was immobile?
Back inside, we went searching for custom brick figs. And we found an entire diorama of them at one location! ...Better remember this place in case Brick needs a little time behind glass to rethink his life.
We did eventually find a place called Build a Brick, which not only dealt in custom figs, but also provided custom backings to match! ...However, I know where to get most of these designs, so I didn't pick any up.
At another booth, they were selling books of Pokemon cards, which Pink was quite happy with.
And Brick finally found his nostalgic passion when we came across these Transformers plushies from PopMinded.
Oh, and there was a Japanese giant monster booth, where I got a selfie with this skull monster.
And I of course had to pick up a souvenir pin to commemorate the occasion. ...And prove that I actually get out of the house once in a while.
And believe me, this was only a FRACTION of what we got to see at this convention, but there's not enough space on any server to contain everything. Still, it was a legal requirement to finish off our adventure by getting a picture inside the Salt Lake Comic Con action figure box! Here I am all packaged and ready to be shipped to my many fans! ...If I have any of those. ...And actually, I don't want to be shipped by fans... Eh, I'm still here and packaged for your collecting purposes!
And that was the Salt Lake Comic Con 2017! It was great last year, awesome this year, and I'm sure it'll be fantastic next year! EXCELSIOR!
...I don't have my own sign-off.
