Day 10: Nutcracker/Toy Soldier
Sorry I missed a day again. I was struggling to get the latest review out, and I forgot to open the calendar door that day. So let's play with ketchup again and hope this doesn't become a regular thing.
This day, we are gifted with the present of a Nutcracker! ...Or is it a toy soldier? ...Either way, it's a hilariously outdated toy to continue to include in Christmas symbolism. Do they even still make the traditional toy solider? Nutcrackers, sure, but has anyone even SEEN a physical red-uniformed, tall black-hatted soldier either as a kids toy or an adult collectible? I'm sure they're still made somewhere and you can buy them from some specific store or website, but for a casual shopper, I think you have more chance of finding the real Santa Claus than one of these figures... But I digress. ...Greatly.
While the last Minions calendar didn't have a toy soldier, there WAS a Nutcracker/toy soldier bundled with the Monster High calendar from last year. ...One of the more normal things from that calendar, come to think of it.
However, like the plane from yesterday, while we've seen the concept before, this is a slightly different model. ...In fact, I think I liked the model that came in the Monster High calendar better. ...BY FAR! That model was bare bones, but it had some color and paint to it. This doesn't even look finished! A long white head and arms, a tall brown hat, solid red uniform, even the feet are just gray!
They didn't even bother to paint any buttons on the front of the uniform! ...I apologize to the previous Nutcracker. THIS is the loosest approximation to what they were shooting for! And this one GENUINELY feels like they just stacked some bricks they had lying around to quickly fill out the calendar!
So no. I don't like this one. This may be the worst model we've gotten yet, and likely the worst out of the entire calendar! It's rushed, it's unfinished, and it has nothing to do with the Minions! I actually feel genuine disgust at being given this! This is one toy soldier that can ride away. FAR away!
