The Brick Miser: Advent Calendar 2018: Mega Construx Despicable Me 3: Day 18

Day 18: Table with Cookies & Cup

...This calendar is trolling me! We spent nearly the entire first week getting instruments, PLUS we received two present models the last two days, so I thought I was justified in assuming we'd just get presents for four days. ...And then they had the nerve to throw a curve ball and give us something different! How despicable can the designers of this calendar get?! ...Then again, it's a Despicable Me calendar, so should I be that surprised?

Anyway, we've finally arrived at the "milk & cookies" portion of the calendar, following the two we saw on Day 14 of the original Despicable Me calendar, and Day 23 of the Monster High calendar. Since this model is later than the first calendar, but earlier than the second, I guess they were going for a happy medium to introduce this microset! ...I say, assuming any thought went into placing the models for this calendar...

Unlike the other two calendars' circle table models, the table here is a standard 2x3 square table, kept up by four slim rod pieces that serve as the legs. ...Not as creative as what the other calendars gave us, especially Monster High's cobra table(!), but, as long as the aesthetics are there, it works fine. And this model... I think has the right idea?

Like the first Despicable Me calendar, we have two brown single stud pieces serving as cookies. ...Despite there existing flat single stud pieces with cookie decals they could also use, but the idea's still there. ...And they're hopefully not as toxic as Monster High's wisteria and mustard-gas cookies/muffins.

However, instead of the milk jug the previous calendars gave us, we instead get a giant blue cup. A giant blue EMPTY cup, without milk or cocoa. It's this addition that makes it a little more ambiguous who the treats are meant for.

Is it really meant for Jolly Old St. Brick to chow down on during his quick stop to Gru's house of nefariousness?

Or is it just the break room table for the Minion's work Christmas party, where they hang around and socialize with some refreshments like they did with the water cooler from the first calendar? It's how much more general the use of this table is that keeps it from being as creative as the other two's interpretations and, like most of the models in this calendar, reduce what could have been a fun and festive piece of toy furniture to a loose stack of pieces.

Still, the Minions get a nice cup out of the deal, which is one of the few equippable accessories this calendar offers! And it's one of the empty cups of cocoa on loan from Kirk Cameron's Saving Christmas! ...Which still had more Christmas spirit than this year's calendar!

So the table's not a bad model, and it's welcomed as a nice interruption instead of having to look at 4 of the same present designs in a row, but it's as bland as 95% of the other models in this calendar. It's just a table built with a standard brick and Mega Construx's trademark rod pieces, with some other bricks for cookies and a cup model that probably came from something else. It's especially disappointing after seeing two other attempts at it from previous calendars! I'd say I hope we get some more detailed models in this last week, but, considering what we've seen so far, that's about as likely at this point as a white Christmas in Miami...
