The Brick Miser: Advent Calendar 2017: Mega Bloks Monster High: Day 2

Day 2: Winter Accessories

Today, the advent calendar has spewed out for us this line of winter wear, comprised of earmuffs, glasses, a scarf, and cuffs(muffs?)

Now obviously, it's pointless to look at each accessory without a model, so let's let Draculaura from yesterday model for us.

The earmuffs are a standard pair of pink earmuffs. ...And that's the long and short of it. It's a piece of solid pink plastic molded roughly into an earmuff form. There's no felt or fur ear warmers to set it apart as actually being earmuffs, so you could have told me that these were headphones and I'd buy it.

Case in point, here's a picture of the Mega Construx Monster High Study Howl set, where the same mold colored blue is used for headphones. I'm not necessarily complaining about the simplicity and blandness of the accessory, especially since I can't expect them to make custom molds for EVERYTHING, I'm just making an observation on how versatile the design they went with is.

Next are the ski goggles. ...Which they even try to make look like ski goggles, as they're clearly regular designer glasses molded transparently...

Again, it's a remold of an already existing pair worn by Ghoulia Yelps. ...And seeing as how the character is apparently the wallflower nerd of the show, it's a little strange she'd choose to wear this particular glasses design. But hey, I'm not one to judge and stereotype. ...Right now.

The way they get the glasses to stay on the face is a little interesting. As a regular glasses mold with arms that rest on the character's ears wouldn't work in this case, they've opted for a "wraparound" method, the strap circling around the figure's head and the back part hidden by the hairpiece.

This does, however, mean that they had to carve out a large groove in the figure's head to keep the strap in place. ...Is the undead affected by lobotomies?

What DOESN'T require extensive cosmetic surgery for the figure to wear is this scarf. ...Or shawl. ...Or whatever it is. I sell stuff and review brick sets for a living, I'm no expert in fashionable winter wear...

Once again, it's another mold copy, with another example also from the previously mentioned Study Howl set. ...Though in this case, it's clear it's serving the same purpose in both instances.

It's also a better mold than the headphones, as I can tell it's molded like it's made of fabric. It's still a rubber piece, but the lines and ridges do make it look fluffy, and it's looks like comfortable winter wear. ...For those who wear winter neck wear, since I don't even wear a scarf.

And finally, we have these cuffs. ...Which is a strange addition to this set of accessories, as it doesn't quite fit the theme of regular winter wear. Maybe cuffs are considered fashionable winter wear, but I've never seen them worn as such. ...I guess it was just their attempt at giving her mittens or a muff with the arms unable to bend that way.

The cuffs are solid plastic, but they clip on to the wrists. ...Well, men have clip-on ties, so it's good to know there's an equivalent for the opposite gender. ...Still tacky either way, but I'm nothing if I'm not for gender equality.

Overall, these are some pretty decent accessories, and I'm glad they're giving them to us right after unboxing the figure, so we can have something to put the accessories on and to decorate the figure with to play with while we wait for the next door to open. Would have liked a little more detail on all of them, but we can't have everything and we can't expect them to spend so much time and money customizing EVERY accessory they make. Let's see what tomorrow has in store!
